Nov- Playlist (Movie Suggestions from Nov releases)

By Hamza Shafique

Month of November is like a dream come true for a cinema addict like me. We have a DC and Marvel Movie each from Hollywood, we have Shoaib Mansoor’s Mahira starrer film Verna from Lollywood and then we have the Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s grand controversial production Padmawati from Bollywood. In between there is a horror film too which also looked quite interesting. My picks for this month are as follows

-----Thor-Ragnarok (PG15)-----

Genre: Action
Running Time: 130 min
Release Date: 02 November 2017
Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban with Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins
Language: English
Subtitle(s): Arabic

Plot: Asgard is threatened but Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his hammer and to escape and save his home world he must fight the Goddess of Death with help from his fellow Avenger-the Incredible Hulk!

DDR Comment: Do I really need to say anything to convince you to go for this one? I went into depression when good people at Novo Cinemas did not invite me for the premiere of this one. This is the impact Marvel movies have on you. It cannot get any better than watching Hulk and Thor going gladiator on each other. Critics are raving about this one and I also cannot wait to watch this one.

-----Justice League-----

Genre: Thriller
Running Time: 120 min
Release Date: 16 November 2017
Starring: Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Amy Adams and J.K. Simmons
Language: English
Subtitle(s): Arabic, French

Plot: Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists newfound ally Diana Prince to face an even greater threat. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to recruit a team to stand against this newly awakened enemy. Despite the formation of an unprecedented league of heroes Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash -- it may be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

DDR Comment:This is supposed to be much serious version of Marvel’s Avengers. This one actually has all the super heroes I love, Flash Bat Man and Wonder woman. Spider Man movie was okish, Batman vs Superman was a dud but Wonder Woman was awesome and restored my faith in the DC universe. So, I am hoping DC has learned from their mistakes now and this one will do justice to the franchise.

-----Verna-----

Release Date: 16 November 2017
Starring: Mahira Khan, Haroon Shahid
Language: Urdu
Subtitle(s): Arabic

Plot: A married couple Sara (Mahira Khan) and Aami's (Haroon Shahid) life falls apart as they face some extraordinary circumstances.

DDR Comment: From trailers, this one seems like heroine centric intense revenge drama. Shoaib Mansoor always bring social cause in style, with entertainment value up on silver screen and there is absolute no reason to doubt him this time.

-----The Bride (18+)-----

Genre: Horror
Running Time: 95 min
Release Date: 02 November 2017
Starring: Viktorya Agalakova and Vyacheslav Chepurchenko
Language: English
Subtitle(s): Arabic

Plot: The unusual practice of photographing dead relatives during mid-1800s rural Russia will link a Philology student with her husband's abysmal family history. Nastya is a young woman who travels with her soon to be husband to his family home. Upon their arrival, she can't help but think that the visit may have been a horrible mistake. She is surrounded by strange people and starts witnessing strange, terrible visions as his family prepares her for a mysterious traditional wedding ceremony. More than the wedding preparations... can she survive the next few days?

DDR Comment: I am usually not a huge fan of Horror genre but the trailer of this one really scared the bejeezus out of me. Trailers shows the bizarre ritual of taking pictures with the dead loved ones, which in itself was quite scary. If you are looking for a horror story then this one definitely seems different and interesting.

-----Padmawati-----

Genre: Drama
Running Time: 100 min
Release Date: 30 November 2017
Starring: Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor
Language: Hindi
Subtitle(s): Arabic, English

Plot: The story of Alauddin Khilji, the second ruler of the Khilji dynasty, and his obsessive love for the queen of Mewar, Padmavati, renowned for her beauty, intellect and courage, which resulted in epic battles between Khiljis and Rajputs.

DDR Comment: Mr. Bhansali is known for having larger than life canvas. Even if you are not interested in the story, you still need to see this one to experience the grandeur of the not so ancient grand India. Kings and Queens adorned with luxury fighting epic battles is what I expect from this one.
