Badrinath ki Dulhania - Short Movie Review

Rating: 2/5 Desi Stars
Badrinath ki Dulhania is a good intention film with poor writing and direction. I was not bored neither was I thoroughly entertained. Pace of the film did not drag but still few scenes seemed pointless and unnecessary. Story had a brilliant message but narrative execution was really dull. Film is about a 10th standard pass manchild Badri played by Varun Dhawan falling for career oriented Vaidehi played by Alia Bhatt. Script tells their story along with highlighting important issues like dowry, importance of a career for a women, how men should respect women and also how important finding love is along side career. Story is not new neither complicated and screenplay is very ordinary. I really enjoyed the bus scene where Badri tries to convince Vaidehi to marry him and I was waiting for more scenes like that but there is lack of such situational comic moments in the film.
On top of that no memorable dialogues and especially second half goes alot longer then it should. Shashank Khaitan's direction seems like run of the mill product, nothing creative. Music is equally forget full and even classic like tama tama fails to excite mostly because of its placement.
What raises this film above average level is the chemistry and performance of Varun and Alia. Varun Dhawan and Alia as usuall deliver exemplary performances, they look good on screen, they dance well and clearly save the day for Khaitan's directorial. Alia is now in that phase of her career where I will sugget her to avoid such projects and get selective. Supporting cast is all good except I would prefer some one more stronger for the role of Badri Father
Apart from great acting and brilliant social message this movie is below average and seems like another 'Shandaar' from Dharma production. This movie is more Vedehi ka dulha rather than badrinath kee dulhania I go with 2 stars.
