February - Playlist

By Hamza Shafique (Instagram / Facebook)

In February we have couple of interesting releases including one big Marvel super hero action-drama. Sadly there is no release from Pakistan film industry but two Bollywood releases are unique to cover the desi ground entirely. Dubai Desi Reviews movie recommendations for Feb are :

Padman-TBC

Release Date: 08 February 2018
Starring: Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar and Sonam Kapoor
Language: Hindi

I am not a fan of Akshay Kumar 's style of cinema but still once in blue moon he comes up with unique projects. Pad man appears as one such film. Film is based on Tamil Nadu activist Arunachalam Muruganantham, whose mission was to provide sanitary napkins to poor women of rural areas. First of all, the topic of women menstruation cycle is a taboo in our society and on top of that calling such a man a super hero makes for an intriguing presentation.

Black Panther-PG15

Release Date: 15 February 2018
Starring: Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan and Lupita Nyong'o
Language: English

If you remember my review of civil war, I mentioned there that the character of black panther deserves a stand-alone movie and now we have one and I'm super excited Everything about the film is refreshing, the modern city of wakanda, along with all the new tech and characters that are being introduced appear super cool. I am sure this movie would be great just like other Marvel movies.

Hichki-TBC

Release Date: 22 February 2018
Starring: Rani Mukherj, Harsh Mayar
Language: Hindi

Rani Mukerji always excels in performance oriented dramas, Hichki from the trailer appears to be one such drama film. The film is an adaptation of Hollywood film Front of the Class (2008), which itself was based on the book, Front of the Class: How Tourette Syndrome Made Me the Teacher I Never Had by Brad Cohen, of which Yash Raj Films acquired the rights. The subject is new and interesting. Her last film Mardaani was intense and she got multiple nominations for her performance also. So, there is absolutely no reason to doubt this one as well.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri -18TC

Release Date: 22 February 2018
Starring: Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell
Language: English

This movie is already making big waves in the awards circle this season. Cast is pretty strong and again a very unique concept. Story goes like this, after months have passed without a culprit in her daughter's murder case, Mildred Hayes paints three signs leading into her town with a controversial message directed at William Willoughby, the town's revered chief of police. Rest of the film deals with the stir this creates and how each character deals with it. I am definitely going to cinema to find whats the fuss is all about as the film received 7 nominations at the 90th Academy Awards, including best picture nomination
